Introverts and Extroverts; How Working Together Can Benefit Them Both

Introverts and Extroverts; How Working Together Can Benefit Them Both

Linda & Jeffre

Have you ever taken your dog to the park, on a walk, or even to the store where they see other people or other dogs? Right away, they want to interact with one or the other and you are drug into the mix. If you’re like me, you’re saying inside, “No, No, No!” and if you’re an extrovert, like Janine, you find yourself happily walking over with your dog (your tail might be wagging too).

Oftentimes, we find ourselves acting this same way at networking events, conferences, parties, and team meetings. Introverts are often waiting in the background while extroverts put themselves out there. If you’re an introvert, you may find it difficult to strike up a conversation, but don’t sit back in the crowd too long. If you’re an extrovert, be mindful of others and don’t hog the spotlight. Extroverts can often successfully bring introverts into a conversation for a more well-rounded discussion. Below are some benefits on how you can learn from each other. When you take the opportunity to learn from each other and work together, it will help you make better connections.

What extroverts can learn from introverts:

  • Gather your thoughts before speaking
  • Be a good listener
  • It’s okay to have downtime
  • Respecting boundaries
  • Form deeper connections

What introverts can learn from extroverts:

  • How to make conversation
  • Step outside their comfort zone
  • Be open to change
  • Ways to meet new people
  • Learn to ask for help

So next time you are out with your dog, and they are pulling you over to someone, use the dog to your advantage. It’s easier to talk with others when you share the same interests.

If you’re at a meeting or event, extroverts, start the conversation but don’t do all the talking. Leave room for others to join in – it’s a much better conversation that way. Introverts, listen to what others are talking about and if something piques your interest, take that opportunity to join the conversation and…Make a connection!
