How Being Called “Bossy” Put Me On A Career Path I Love!
What is the state of your business? Are you organized? Are your projects getting done? Is your team doing what they are supposed to be doing and when? Are you feeling fulfilled in your business?
My nickname is “Bossy”. Growing up, I was one of seven siblings. When mom and dad went to work, we children had certain responsibilities to do at home. Well, as children, we did not always do what we were supposed to do; when one got in trouble, we all got in trouble. The end result was we would get punished. I got tired of that – getting the car taken away and not being able to go out with friends – it was not fair. As the second oldest child, I took the reigns and put a plan together, who would do what, when, and how. You best believe I made sure everything was done every day. Even though my siblings called me “Bossy”, we all got to enjoy the pleasures of life. Then in the corporate world, I was doing the same thing, putting a plan together, deciding who was responsible for the task and when it had to be completed. I was responsible to oversee those projects to completion. If you were to look at my personal calendar, you would see my life is planned out in a similar way. And today, I use those acquired project management skills to help my clients with their projects and business.
Three Ways a Project Manager Benefits Your Business
- Communication: Communication is essential in any business. A Project Manager manages the team doing the work. In doing so, the Project Manager communicates with the business owner to provide status updates/issues. When there is clear communication, it takes the worry off the business owner so they can focus on the core business.
- Collaboration: One responsibility of the project manager is to provide project status to the team as well. In order to do so, they must be able to work together with the other team members. The Project Manager can also provide team spirit and make things fun and effective for the team.
- Processes and Productivity: The project manager oversees the project from start to finish. Another area of their responsibility is to identify where the processes can be improved, which impacts productivity and the bottom line to the better.
Without really thinking about it, my whole life, I have been a project manager. I am thankful for the opportunity and for having developed the skillsets to build my career as a project manager because I love what I do! Yes, I drive my family crazy when it is time to organize an event or celebration, and they call me “Bossy,” but that is ok with me. The project manager comes out – who, what, when and, how – and I enjoy the planning and seeing the end results! It all comes together, everyone is happy!
