In the corporate world, I was told to “grow” or “go”. Since I had a high school diploma, “grow” for me meant I had to work towards obtaining a college degree. It was a difficult decision. I was a single mom, and my job provided the necessities of life, at times, I worked a second job to have extra money. So I decided to “grow,” even though at the beginning, it took time away from family and self-care, I had to do what I believed to be best for the future for my family and me. With sacrifice and determination, taking one course at a time, I finally got my bachelor’s degree. I did not stop, and I received my master’s degree two years later. With my hard-earned growth came promotional opportunities! This was a wake-up call for me as to why professional development needs to be an essential part of my life.
What is the purpose of professional development? Professional development is important for everyone! It helps keep you current on modern trends and state-of-the-art technology.
When I started Project Management Specialist, I had no official training. I did not know what I was doing, I was floundering around making things work. I thought to myself if this is what running a business is all about, I am out of here. Soon, I heard about various business training and learning opportunities. This is when things began to change for me and my business.
One of the programs I found is Virtual Expert® Training. I decided to become a Certified Virtual Expert®. It teaches you about mindset, how to run your business, and the all-important skill of how to find clients. The program includes a full curriculum, assignments, coaching, training, and community support. After completion of the program, you earn the designation of Certified Virtual Expert®. To maintain this status, every year you have certain requirements to fulfill. The renewal includes training, opportunities for referrals, and community support. Yes, I just received my notification of the completed renewal of Certified Virtual Expert®.
